How Do I Report Fraud?
If you’ve been the victim of fraud, it’s important to inform the authorities. Here’s some advice on what to do:
Report to Action Fraud
Action Fraud (not to be confused with us) is the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime. Here’s what to do:
- Visit their website: www.actionfraud.org.uk
- Call their helpline: +1 (206) 609-6016 (available Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm).
When you speak with Action Fraud, you will need to explain:
- What happened and when.
- How you were approached (e.g., email, phone call, in person).
- Any evidence you have (emails, receipts, messages).
Once you report the fraud, you’ll receive a reference number to track your case.
If You’ve Lost Money
- Contact Your Bank Immediately – Inform them of the fraud. Banks often have fraud departments to assist or stop suspicious transactions.
- Check Insurance – Some home or business insurance policies cover fraud-related losses.
If You’re in Immediate Danger or the Fraud is Happening Right Now
- Call 999 immediately. This is for emergencies where someone is at risk, or a crime is actively happening.
